Apple plans to offer 25 popular channels in single TV bundle

According to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, tech giant Apple apparently has negotiations underway with news content providers, to offer a wide array of TV networks on one single bundle later this year.

According to the WSJ report, citing unidentified sources aware of Apple’s plans, successful negotiations between Apple and news content providers will allow Apple to offer a TV bundle with 25 channels, including ABC, CBS and FOX.

The WSJ sources has disclosed, on the condition of anonymity, that Apple is currently in talks with a number of TV executives, for offering a “slimmed-down bundle of TV network this fall.” As per the sources, the cost of the TV bundle which Apple plans to offer will likely be between $30 and $40 per month.

Furthermore, the WSJ sources also said that the “slimmed-down bundle” of TV networks which Apple wants to offer will essentially bring together popular TV channels in one package; with smaller TV networks to be offered in a separate bundle.

Apple’s reported efforts to provide Web-based TV is a move aimed at strengthening its set-top service called Apple TV. Towards that end, Apple CEO Tim Cook had said at the company’s ‘Spring Forward’ event on March 9: “Apple TV will reinvent the way that you watch television, and this is just beginning.”
