Unemployment Rate slightly down in Ohio

Ohio's unemployment rate declined slightly last month after being steady for two months on the trot, according to state numbers released on Friday.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said the joblessness rate in Ohio was 5.6% for September, which is almost a 5.7% fall in what it was in July and August. The Ohio unemployment rate which was 5.9% for September was slightly better than the overall national rate.

A detailed study of the state numbers showed that the seasonally adjusted non-agriculture employment rate increased by 6,000 during the month in the state. The exact increase was from 5,297,400 in August to 5,303,400 in September.

Accordingly, the number of unemployed workers was 319,000 last month which was down by 5,000 from 324,000 in August. The overall unemployment rate in September was 5.6% and it is lower than what it was in May and June when it was 5.5%.

Meanwhile, Humboldt County's September unemployment rate is among the lowest of surrounding Northern California counties and is doing better than the state average. According to the Labor Market Information Division report, there has been a drop of 0.7% in the local unemployment rate from August to September.

This drop in this case is the result of addition of 800 more jobs in Humboldt County from August to September. One of the reasons for this is that a majority of schools are back in session and are hiring after summer break.

Unemployment rate in case of California also fell to 7.3% in September, which was a drop of 0.1% from what it was in August. The figures reported by the California Employment Development Department reported that the jobless rate has continued to decline since economic recovery began in 2010.

Sheila Stock, research analyst with the division said, "Government saw an increase in 200 jobs in local government and state government organization".
