Google launches new AMP for Ads project

In an announcement made on Tuesday, tech giant Google announced the launch of a new project -- Accelerated Mobile Pages for Ads (A4A) -- which has been designed to persuade advertisers to create ads which load faster on mobile devices.

The newly launched A4A project is an advertising-centric version of Google's Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project which was announced by the company in October 2015. The key objective behind Google's launch of the AMP initiative was to accelerate the loading of publishers' content on mobile devices.

With the A4A project essentially underscoring an AMP version that is specifically tailored for advertising content, the AMP project's Tech Lead Malte Ubl said in a blog post that A4A is "bringing us to a more technically healthy advertising ecosystem on the internet."

There will be some key differences between A4A and legacy web ads; and also between A4A other AMP pages. One distinct difference between A4A and legacy web ads is that A4A will separate ad requests from ad rendering; and will thus pave the way for faster ad rendering at no additional CPU or memory cost.

Meanwhile, the main difference between A4A and other AMP pages is that A4A - which will lack the full functionality of standard AMP pages - will have its own analytics functionality; thereby resulting in the elimination of bandwidth and runtime costs linked with the measurement tools which usually come with an advertisement.
