Sedentary lifestyle highly unhealthy when coupled with lack of physical activity

Where on one hand you might be restricting yourself from indulging in various habits that take one toward diseases, on the other just sitting for long may not appear unhealthy to you, but it is. Let’s see how. A new study hold that long hours spent on sedentary work when coupled with lack of physical activities can really make one fall prey to many kinds of diseases.

The study that came with the above mentioned claims was published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. The study took various lifestyle factors into consideration. It revolved around middle-aged men born in 1913 who were assessed for various lifestyle factors for 45 years. They were assessed to report effect of smoking, aerobic capacity, cholesterol profiles and high blood pressure on the age of mortality.

As supposed, the study found that smoking was the most likely lifestyle factor to kill a person early in life. However, what came surprising was that low aerobic capacity as measured by peak oxygen uptake was linked to higher deaths than the other cardiovascular factors. The men having lowest VO2 Max had a 42% more risk of dying early than the men who were most fit. They also had about 21% higher risk than men with average aerobic capacity.

So what comes out eventually as conclusion is that if one has to be part of sedentary work for long hours, it is better to indulge in physical activity for at least an hour a day. One answer to your question if you are thinking what should be the physical activity that could help you ward off negative impact of sedentary work. So the answer is walk, brisk walk could do wonders.
