During the course of her address at Intel's Datacenter Day on Monday, Diane Bryant - general manager, Intel Datacenter Group - made the case for the noteworthy transition taking place in backend computing.
Bryant asserted that innovation in data center is still a top priority with chip giant Intel, even though the new leaders of the company have, of late, been talking a lot about mobile strategy.
Noting that backend computing is currently witnessing a new revolution, Bryant said that Intel intends to be a pioneer in terms of significantly changing the way in which servers, networking, and storage are utilized, so as to deliver improved efficiencies, speedier service delivery, and lower costs.
Describing the present phase of the industry as "truly a very, very exciting time," Bryant said that the industry is "going through a fundamental transformation in the way that IT is used;" with the new focus being the delivery of rapid service to users via the cloud as well as the massive build-out of mobile devices and the so-called Internet of Things.
With regard to the big transformation of the data center and back-end infrastructure, Bryant said that a move towards "human-centric" computing is the next logical step to follow the "computer-centric" and "network-centric" eras; and added: "Today, we look at IT as the service. IT is no longer supporting the business, rather IT is the business."
