Google Play Games will no longer require Google+ log-in

In an announcement made on Thursday, Google said that it has eliminated the Google+ log in requirement for Google Play Games.

The announcement implies that the Google Play Games service is set to break up from the Google+ social network; with the games integrated with the Google gaming hub to be moved over to new Gamer IDs in the coming weeks.

Google said in the Thursday announcement that it will be rolling out the new sign-in process for Google Play Games over the next few weeks. As a result of the new sign-in process, Google Play games users will be able to log in to a game on their Android-powered smartphone or tablet by creating a Gamer ID.

The new sign-in process for Google Play Games will require users to enter their credentials once per account instead of once per game. As such, the universal Gamer IDs will give Google Play Games users a distinct personal identity linked to all the games they play on the Google gaming hub.

With the help of the Google Play Games app, users will have the ability to select from more than 40 avatars for their profile picture; and will remain automatically signed in whenever they start up a new game.
