In a recent announcement made via a Google+ post, tech giant Google said that it will stop running Flash ads in January 2017; and, thereafter, all display ads run by the company will be 100 percent in HTML5.
The announcement by Google is the latest indication that the Adobe Flash technology on the web is heading towards its end. The technology played a significant role in the development of the modern web; but it has a non- existent presence on mobile. Moreover, of late, the Flash technology has become a frequent target of security vulnerabilities.
Sharing details about Google's imminent plans to stop serving Flash ads, Google said in the post on its Google+ social network that, with effect from June 30, 2016, the company will stop uploading display ads built in Flash to two of its biggest advertisement-centric products --- AdWords and DoubleClick Digital Marketing.
Google further added that, going ahead from the mentioned date, the company will eventually stop serving Flash ads on January 2, 2017.
However, Google also clarified that video ads which use the Flash technology will still continue to work and be served after January 2017, even after the Flash format will stop running on the Google Display Network or through DoubleClick.
