In a somewhat delayed reaction to Instagram’s March 15 announcement about proposed changes to its news feed, the users of the popular photo-sharing site are vehemently opposing the changes.
According to reports, Instagram users are apparently infuriated at the company’s experimental rollout of a change to its news feed. The changed algorithm being tested by Instagram displays the users’ news feeds in such a way that “most relevant” content is given priority over other content.
The algorithm-based feed which Instagram is testing marks a notable change from the ‘reverse chronological order’ in which the company has thus far been displaying the users’ news feed.
Although the news feed changes being tested by Instagram have not been broadly rolled out to all users, a few celebrities -- including John Mayer and Kendall Jenner -- have out rightly opposed the prospect of an algorithm-based news feed.
In opposing Instagram’s proposed news feed changes, Mayer said in a last-week post on the site: “My tastes, interest and curiosities change every day; if I’m not even sure what’s relevant to me, how will you know?”
Jenner has also opposed the potential changes to news feed by saying in a recent tweet: “Don’t fix something that isn’t broken.”
