Bigwig tech firm Apple has revealed in a recent announcement that it will introduce a green squirt gun emoji -- in place of the pistol emoji -- in the forthcoming new version of its operating system.

Though Apple did not specifically mention the gun when it announced the new set of emojis for the upcoming version of its operating system, the company said that new emojis will bring increased diversity to the current list of emojis, along with unfolding "beautiful redesigns of popular emoji."

So far as 'redesign' aspect is concerned, the green squirt gun emoji is the only emoji on the new list which is a redesign of an existing emoji.

The incorporation of the green squirt gun emoji on Apple's list of emojis for its new operating system version is an indication of the fact that the company is essentially reinterpreting the manner in which it will "read" the pistol emoji. Rather than depicting the emoji as a metal revolver, it will depict it as a green toy water pistol.

With regard to Apple's move to replace the pistol emoji with a green squirt gun emoji in the new version of its operating system, Jeremy Burge -- a member of the non-profit organization Unicode Consortium, which selects designs and codes emojis -- said the company is merely changing the design of an existing emoji; and, thus, it requires no input or updates from Unicode.
