Pew Research Center’s global survey reveals gloomy view of economic recovery

In a latest economic survey by the Pew Research Center, it was found that although on the whole the global economy is on the path of recovery but public opinion on the possible financial future varies from country to country.

Africans, Asians and Latin Americans are more upbeat about current and future economic conditions whereas the Europeans are not of the same opinion. Pew found that a large majority of population of Greece (97% say economic conditions are bad), Italy (96%) and Ukraine (93%) described their economy as bad.

Only the Germans (85%) looked favorable upon their economic situation. Besides them 89% of Chinese and 87% of Vietnamese think that their economy is doing well. On the contrary, the overall results of the Pew Research Center poll released on Tuesday stated that around 60% of people surveyed across 44 countries reported that their economy is looking bad.

Among all 44 countries, there were 25 emerging countries such as China, Turkey, Russia, Brazil and Argentina and nine developing ones including, Bangladesh, Uganda and Palestinian territories.

In Israel, this survey was conducted from April 24 to May 1. It was done through face-to face interview with 1,000 people, "Jews, Arabs and others". When all these people were asked that whether they were satisfied with the way things are going in their country today, around 49% of Israelis said they were satisfied and 50% said they were dissatisfied. In all, the Israelis were among the least dissatisfied people in the world.

In all, 48,643 individuals were surveyed across the world between March and June 2014. Pew stated, "The global public is generally downbeat about the economic situation in their countries, except in Asia".

The results stated that unemployment, rising living costs and public debt have been described as the biggest complaints. About 60% respondents also cited wealth inequality as a "very big" problem.
