Google reportedly working to legally allow under-13 children to use its services

According to technology news website The Information, Internet search giant Google probably has efforts underway to legally allow children below 13 years of age to use the company's services.

As per The Information's report, Google has been "working to overhaul its web services so it can legally allow children to use them."

Though Google has not official confirmed the move, the report from The Information is noteworthy because Google's popular services - like Gmail, YouTube, apps and music - are currently not offered to children under 13 years. Google's log-in policies are presently in compliance with the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as the company officially bans children under 13 from using its services.

Despite the fact that the reported move by Google to allow under-13 children to use its services will apparently trigger concerns from privacy and parents groups, The Information has revealed that Google is probably mulling ways to make sure that the accounts of under-13 children are closely monitored.

Going by the report, the accounts for kids will seemingly include a special dashboard which will give parents the ability to oversee the online activities of their children. Parents will apparently have access to statistics about what their children are doing online, and how they are using Google's services.
