Salesforce.com Launches Fund Called ‘Salesforce1 Fund’ with initial US$100 corpus

Salesforce.com on Monday launched a new fund called 'Salesforce1 Fund' for its investment unit renamed as "Salesforce Ventures". The fund will add an amount of US $100 million into company's mobile app building and other connected products based on the Salesforce1 Platform.

Sources reported that companies that will be benefitted from this investment include DocuSign, i.am+, InsideSales.com and Skuid.

Salesforce1 is the base for the Salesforce's Internet of things or "Internet of Customers" strategy. The platform taps into Salesforce's cornerstones sales and service Clouds, the AppExchange, and the exact target marketing Cloud, the last of which has been branded Salesforce's most prominent takeover till date.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff last year explained the "Internet of Customers" strategy by an example. He compared it with a toothbrush and a dentist, saying the brush gathered data for its owner, the dentist.

The company during this summer introduced Salesforce Wear, an initiative that provides developers with various equipments that are used to build apps for wearables across a wide range of devices that are offered by ARM, Fitbit, Pebble, Philips, Samsung and others.

Salesforce1 offers business with enlarged view on individual customers to enable them to deliver a personalized content across all channels and devices.

Sources reported that the company has described a scenario in which a wrist band will be given by a casino so that it can be treated different from other customers. These customers with the wrist bands will be provided a royal treatment no matter where they are whether in a hotel or in a complex.

Another situation described by the company is to provide remote service technicians such as oil rig workers or medical device reps, with access to live data and the ability to review plans for the equipment they're tasked with repairing.

According to CB Insights, during the last five years, US$1.4 billion has been invested in emerging private wearable startups. It was also found that the deals saw an increase of 135% between 2012 and 2013.
