Dachshund Dennis loses 75% of body weight by dieting

Dennis, a dachshund, has created a sort of a record by losing more than 75 percent of his body weight and according to the owner, he is now happy with his body weight.

Dennis, who is of dachshund breed, was able to lose weight through dieting. He was about 56 pounds in weight that is about size of the four or five dogs of the same species. He was apparently so fat that his head looked smaller than his body and he was out of breath in just few steps.

Brooke Burton adopted the dog from former owner, who used to overfeed him. The previous owner fed him burgers, pizza and other kinds of fast food, which made him fat. Burton is a nursing student, who convinced the previous owner to give him up. Burton then helped Dennis go on a diet and gave him dry dog food diet with lots of exercise. Following the adoption of healthier lifestyle, the dog was able to play with three other rescue dogs, who were living with him.

Burton said, "In the beginning, you could tell he was very depressed, that he really didn't feel good at all. He didn't have much of a personality. After he lost weight, this bossy little demanding man popped out. He's into everything, he wants to play with everybody."

Dennis also had to undergo three surgeries to remove the excess skin folding at the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center.
