Guess who came back from the World Natural Powerlifting Federation World Championships with a cartload of trophies, a 77-year-old lady with a sweet laugh.

The woman is Ms. Willie Murphy. She is self-taught, self-trained and weighs around 105 pounds, Murphy dead lifted 215 pounds at the WNPF Championships, which was held November 15 and 16 in Atlanta.

In the competition she started with 5-pound weights a few years ago, then after seeing a sign about a weight-lifting competition at the Metro Carlson Y. She asked a Maplewood YMCA employee if she could participate, who in turn said that "Go for it, granny".

She managed to lift weights that were more than twice her weight. Along with this Murphy can also do one-handed pull-ups, one-handed pushups and fingertip pushups. She also did the unique pushups where you put your fingers in diamond formation and press your nose all the way to the floor.

Confirming the secret behind her strength, Murphy has clarified that all her strength is natural and is not because of the intake of any steroids. Also, she did not use any ammonia or belts or hand powder that many competitors are said to have brought in use to gain an advantage at these recent World Championships.

She says that she could have used these things but the problem is that nobody has taught her how to use any of these weightlifting aids. She says that personal training is expensive and she does not have the fortune to spend $39 an hour for it.

Speaking in this context Lisa Greer, director of administration and member services at the Maplewood Family YMCA said that Murphy is spunky, sweet and inspirational.

Murphy said, "They see I'm old and I'm not being pushed around in a wheelchair. I can shovel my own snow. And I can push my car if it gets stuck in the snow... I'm almost 80 years old and I am still living life".
