It has been reported that Rosetta's lander has completed its primary science mission almost after staying for 57 hours on the comet 67P/ Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Also, it was found that the communication with the lander was cut off since 09:58 GMT/10:58 CET on Friday, but Rosetta regained contact with Philae at 22:19 GMT /23:19 CET last night.
As per sources, the signal was initially discontinuous, but very soon signals stabilized and remained quite good until 00:36 GMT/ 01: 36 CET this morning. Meanwhile in this duration the lander sent all of its housekeeping data, as well as science data from the targeted instruments, including ROLIS, COSAC, Ptolemy, SD2 and CONSERT.
In addition the maneuvers were performed by lander's body to receive more solar energy. But as soon as the Philae sent its last data to earth its power again depleted.
Stephan Ulamec, lander manager at the DLR German Aerospace Agency, said that it has been a big achievement for the entire team. The whole team is quite delighted with this huge success. Ulamec also monitors Philae's progress from ESA's Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany.
Ulamec said that in spite of the unplanned series of three touchdowns, all the instruments can be operated and it's the time to carry forward their mission further.
Scientists associated with the Rosetta's mission told that Philae bounced twice after its first touchdown on the surface of the comet as its automated harpoon system did not work.
They also said that the search for Philae's final landing site is still going on. Scientists with the help of high-resolution images from the orbiter are closely scrutinizing the comet's surface in order to search final landing site for Philae.
Ulamec said, "We still hope that at a later stage of the mission, perhaps when we are nearer to the Sun, that we might have enough solar illumination to wake up the lander and re-establish communication".
Scientists said that the next possible communication slot begins on 15 November at about 10:00 GMT/11:00 CET.
