Google unfolds famous Egyptian sights in Street View images uploaded to Google Maps

In an announcement made via a blog post, Tarek Abdalla - Google's Head of Marketing for Middle East and North Africa - has revealed that new Street View images have been uploaded to Google Maps to 'visit' Egypt from the convenience of their home.

Noting that the new Street View images can enable users to "walk like an Egyptian," Google said that one of Egypt's landmark sights which unfold for the users through Street View images is the Great Pyramid of Giza --- the only remaining member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

For bringing prominent Egyptian sights to users through the Street View imagery, Google said that the Street View team used the Trekker technology to capture the images over a period of a couple of weeks last year.

The project was carried out by the Street View team in collaboration with the local government for the project. The images collected by the Street View team included pictures from the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Hanging Church, the Pyramid of Djoser, Abu Mena, the Cairo Citadel and the Citadel of Qaitbay.

After the collection of the images, the Street View team assembled them into 360-degree, panoramic images so that Street View users can view the famous Egyptian sights just like they are actually visiting them.
