Ofcom: 14- and 15-year-olds are most technologically-savvy age group in UK

According to a convincing new Ofcom report published on Thursday, the most technologically-savvy age group in the UK is the 14- and 15-year-old teenagers who belong to the so-called 'Millennium Generation.'

The findings of a study carried out by Ofcom have revealed that once people hit their teens, their digital confidence sets off on a long decline. As such, the report asserts that the six-year-olds in the US claim that they are as well- versed with technology as their parents.

In reference to the basis of the findings of the study, Ofcom report said that the 'Millennium Generation' - teenagers born at the turn of the millennium - is unlikely ever to have experienced the old-fashioned 'dial-up' Internet; and they comprise the first generation which has taken a speedy broadband connection for granted.

With the advent of broadband in the year 2000 having evidently created a generation of digital natives, the children born in the new millennium are extremely tech-savvy and the youngest among them are learning how to operate smartphones or tablets before they are able to talk.

Noting that "these younger people are shaping communications," Ofcom's media research head Jane Rumble said: "As a result of growing up in the digital age, they are developing fundamentally different communication habits from older generations."
