Internet access on mobile phones and tablets has resulted in rapid growth of mobile networks. A1 (Telekom Austria Group's operative company in Austria) with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks is working on further evolution of mobile technologies in the years to come.
Telekom Austria Group is testing the next generation of LTE in collaboration with the development laboratories of its technology suppliers, said Hans Pichler, Group CTO of the Telekom Austria Group.
He added that the use of applications on smartphones and tablets to share photos and videos have become very popular among customers. This has increased data volumes across the mobile networks.
Data volumes will continue to significantly increase in the coming years. A successful demonstration of LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation was conducted by A1 Telekom Austria today. It used Nokia Siemens Network's current base station hardware for the demonstration.
The demo was large and involved large file transfers with a simultaneous video stream. The downloading speed was 580 megabits per second. It is far more than twice the current 4G LTE peak rates.
Marcus Grausam, CTO, A1 Telekom Austria added that they are committed to deliver the most advanced technologies to their customers.
