On Thursday, December 13, General Motors took the wraps off the redesigned versions of its two full-size pickups - Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra - which now boast revamped engines and upgrades to cater to the needs of commercial users.
Thanks to the evolutionary styling of the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, the new trucks will have a more chiseled and well-built look as compared to the preceding models.
Though the new models will have the same displacements as their outgoing counterparts, a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8, the redesigned trucks will be powered by GM's so-called EcoTec3 line of engines, which will come with features like cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing and direct fuel injection.
While GM revealed that all engines of the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models will have a six-speed transmission, the company stopped short of disclosing the new pickups' final horse power and torque ratings; which will probably be released early next year.
Nonetheless, GM did mention that the new V6 version will have enough power for installation in crew cab models; and that the 5.3-liter version will be more powerful and fuel-efficient than the existing models.
Meanwhile, hinting that the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups will be further enhanced in their early lifecycles, GM North American Mark Reuss hinted to the media that the powertrains of the two vehicles will be updated in the coming years.
