Female Rhino Gunshot by Poachers at Manas National Park

It seems something really bad with the rhinos as the forest official in Assam's Manas National Park has found a female rhino without her horns. This park has been titled as the World Heritage Site and the scientists found the death of sixth rhino from 2011 in the Bhuyanpara range in the eastern part of the park.

The Bhuyanpara range is the highly secured area of the park that even the NDFB hardliners militants are active in the bordering areas. The title of the world's heritage site has been now lost by the Manas National park after the killing of the sixth rhino by the poachers.

The management team is planning to take some steps in the re-establishment of the species in this park. A. Swargiary, the park's director, said that the poacher fired three guns shots on the female rhino and one of them was killed by the forest staff. But the poachers had taken away the horn of the rhino leaving the carcass behind.

The previous year, forest staff had found this female rhino in the Pobitora wildlife sanctuary and this rhino had given birth to her first calf in Manas. The rhino poaching has been declared as the serious conservation threat at several world heritage sites by the World Heritage Committee.
