On Sunday, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge gave a message on mental health, saying that both, she and her husband Prince William are in favor of getting extra support if ever they need it for the mental health of their children. She said that they would definitely encourage their little ones to go for therapy if they ever struggle psychologically.
In a statement, she said that no parent think twice at the time of calling a doctor when their kids suffer from fever, even then some children have been going through difficult times in the absence of support that can be helpful for them because the grownups in their lives are afraid of speaking out.
The comments were made by the duchess at the launch of a new children’s mental health podcast known as ‘Child in Mind’ from the Anna Freud National Center for Children. It is a series that will assist parents by providing them with information on how they can monitor and aid the mental well-being of their child.
Previously in 2016, she also started Heads Together, a project useful in creating mental health awareness, with Prince William and Prince Harry. In February, she also spoke in support of more compassion and research during Children’s Mental Health week.
The Duchess of Cambridge said, “Both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it”.
In the US, nearly 20% of children are presently suffering from a diagnosable mental health disorder or will experience one at some phase of their life. Even then, there are myths and negative stereotypes around mental health, probably standing tall in the way of caregivers looking for treatment for their kids. The royals are looking forward to change this mindset.
According to a report in ABC NEWS by Katie Kindelan, "Princess Kate said she "wouldn't hesitate" to get "extra support" to protect the mental health of her two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, if they ever need it."
"No parent would fail to call the doctor if their child developed a fever, yet some children are tackling tough times without the support that can help them because the adults in their life are scared to ask," Kate, 34, said Sunday in a statement of support for a new podcast series on children and mental health. "It doesn't need to be like this."
"Throughout my work with family and child support organisations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow up," Kate said in the statement. "Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn't hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it."
A report published in Huffington Post informed, "Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge shared a message about mental health on Sunday, saying that she and her husband Prince William would absolutely encourage their children to seek therapy if they were struggling psychologically."
