World’s Largest Flying Water Bomber will Not Perform at EAA Air Show

Reportedly, Hawaii Martin Mars, the world's largest flying water bomber will not perform on Saturday at the EAA air show.

The plane was on its way to the show when one of the check engine lights of the four engine plane came on. To inspect what's wrong, the pilots opted to land the 160,000 lbs plane on Lake Winnebago. During the precautionary landing, the bomber hit something that was submerged under water which resulted in a hole.

Water started to pour in and was pumped out with help from the Appleton Fire Department. Later it flew back to the EAA seaplane base.

There were no reports of injuries due to the incident and the Martin Mars will continue to operate for paid tours. Visitors will get a chance to tour the Hawaii Martin Mars as it remains docked on the lake, at the sea plane base.

Hawaii Mars JRM-3 was built in 1946 and was used as a cargo plane in the World War II for ferrying troops to Hawaii and bringing casualties back to the mainland. In later years, this plane was used as a fire-fighting plane. The aviation gem is owned by Coulson Flying Tankers of Port Alberni, British Columbia.

Debate is always on whether Mars was a wet planet a long time ago or not. Now, scientists studied data collected by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter of NASA and found that liquid water isn’t responsible for the creation of Martian gullies.
