Intel to Join MJFF in Battle against Parkinson’s Disease

Technology major Intel has announced its support to Michael J. Fox Foundation. Intel will work with the foundation to provide sufferers of Parkinson's disease with wearable devices, which will help in collection of health related information.

The device will gather data from patients by observing the sleep quality, speed and frequency of hand tremors. The collected data will help the researchers to learn more about the disease.

Diane Bryant, general manager and senior vice president of Intel's Data Center Group, said, "The variability in Parkinson's symptoms creates unique challenges in monitoring progression of the disease".

He also said that the technology will help the researchers to learn the unidentified features of Parkinson's disease.

Michael J. Fox Foundation was formed in 2000 after actor Michael J. Fox's was diagnosed with Parkinson's. To develop these devices, MJFF will provide funds to Intel. Before joining hands with the tech giant, the foundation has given millions of dollars to other organizations to discover more about the disease.

According to CEO of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Todd Sherer, the wearable device will help researchers to capture patient's actual experience.

Developers at Intel are working on wearable devices to find ways in which the data from the devices may be best studied. To understand the disease, workers are trying to mine data.
