Waze launches new initiative to help users avoid traffic problems during events

Navigation app Waze has recently announced the launch of a new Global Event Partner Program, which will enable Waze to help its users avoid traffic delays and traffic jams during big events like marathons and pro sports.

Announcing the new Global Event Partner Program, Waze said that it is partnering with the organizers of big events, so that its users can avoid unnecessary traffic holdups by receiving up-to-the-minute information related to traffic and road closures.

According to the details shared by Waze, the Global Event Partner Program will essentially enable the partnering event organizers to use the Waze Closure tool to input any scheduled road closures or possible traffic delays ahead of a big event.

About the Waze Global Event Partner Program, a TechCrunch report has revealed that the initiative will give event organizers the ability to add traffic-related information – such as turn restrictions, parking locations, and lane reversals, among others – for over 65 million users.

The Global Event Partner Program is being launched by Waze initially with 20 partners in North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia. Some of the US event organizers that have partnered with Waze for the initiative include the Atlanta Falcons (Georgia Dome), Atlanta Hawks (Phillips Arena), Washington Redskins (FedEx Field), Washington Nationals (Nationals Park), Detroit Lions (Ford Field), and the Rock n' Roll Marathon Series.
