Sirin Labs, a 2013-founded stealth Israeli startup, has successfully raised a $72 million seed round, for launching a new, secure smartphone on the market next month. The smartphone which Sirin Labs plans to launch will be called Solarin.'
The $72 million seed round to launch the 'Solarin' handset has been raised by Sirin Labs from Israeli venture capitalist Moshe Hogeg, the founder of Singulariteam; Kazakh businessman Kenges Rakishev; former McKinsey consultant Tal Cohen; and China-based Renren social networking service.
About its forthcoming 'Solarin' smartphone, Sirin Labs has revealed that the device will likely arrive on the markets towards the end of May, in coincidence with the company's dedicated retail store in London.
According to Sirin Labs, the 'Solarin' handset will be the "Rolls-Royce of smartphones." It will become available for purchase in markets across the world via the company's own ecommerce site. Sirin Labs also apparently has plans underway to open additional retail stores across North America, Europe, and Asia later this year.
Revealing that the Solarin smartphone - which has taken three years in the making - will basically be an amalgamation of the safety of a military-grade device and the features of a daily-use handset, Hogeg said: "We managed to combine military phone and the phone for everyday use. We said: let's create the best phone we can. Let's see if we can integrate the best from both worlds without limitations."
