German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has recently moved ahead into a new sports car segment with its new 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT.
Representing a new direction for the Mercedes-Benz performance division, the new two-seat GT - the second sports car to be developed in-house by Mercedes - will come with a price-tag of approximately $120,000 for the base model.
According to the details shared by Mercedes-Benz, the new 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT will largely be made of aluminum; and will have a long hood and wide rear end. The car boasts a front mid-engine design which pivots around its biturbo 4-liter V-8 engine that has the capacity to produce 456 horsepower. The car will also come in a GT S version with a motor producing 503 horsepower.
With regard to the speed of the GT, Mercedes said that the car's powerplant will be capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in barely 3.7 seconds; with the top speed of the car being 193 mph.
Describing the new Mercedes-AMG GT as "a sports car in its purist form," Gorden Wagener - VP of design for Mercedes' parent firm Daimler - said: "Breathtaking proportions, powerfully sculpted surfaces and flowing lines turn the new AMG into a contemporary sports car which embodies the spirit of the glorious Mercedes sports cars."
