On Monday, web search giant Google announced its Google Cast capability has been fully integrated directly into its Chrome browser. Google Cast is the protocol which powers the Google Chromecast streaming dongle.

The announcement of full integration of Google Cast capability into Chrome browser underscores a noteworthy advance by Google, which – for the last two years – has been offering the Cast extension to enable users to broadcast content from their Chrome browser to Chromecast and other Cast-enabled devices.

Now, with Google Cast capability integrated directly into the Chrome browser, users will no longer have to download any additional software for broadcasting content from Chrome browser to Cast-enabled devices.

The Cast icon will now show up on all supported sites, and users will simply have to use the Chrome menu to Cast anything they want. When users click on the Chrome menu button, the move will prompt the unfolding of a new ‘Cast...’ option which can beam an entire tab to the users’ TV.

According to Google, the new Cast functionality will be able to users who are using the latest version of the Chrome browser along with a Cast-aware device on their local network. However, the old Cast extension will still remain available for users who want the tab-beam button in their toolbar.
