Report: Google is recruiting YouTube stars for ‘Daydream’ promotion

According to a Bloomberg report, tech biggie Google has efforts underway to build a catalog of exclusive content for its forthcoming ‘Daydream’ virtual reality (VR) platform, by recruiting YouTube stars and other creators.

‘Daydream’ is Google’s hybrid store and user immersive software platform, which was unveiled by the company at its I/O conference this spring. The platform has been designed to display on smartphone screens and plug into the Google Cardboard VR headsets or visors.

‘Daydream’ is scheduled to launch in “the coming weeks.”

Revealing that Google has teamed up with Hulu to create 360 degree promotional videos for ‘Daydream,’ the Bloomberg report – citing unidentified sources – said that some of the promotional ‘Daydream’ videos will feature YouTube stars like Justine Ezarik, a.k.a. “iJustine,” and the Dolan twins, Ethan and Grayson Dolan.

Further adding that Google is spending "hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece" on a wide array of VR content and apps, the Bloomberg report said that Google is also in talks -- for ‘Daydream’ promotion deals -- with video game producers, music apps, and sports leagues.
