The first event of GC32 Austria Cup is hosted as a part of popular Traunsee Woche. The brand new GC32 series began in Austria in the spectacular Lake Traunsee. It has six race teams contesting at the inaugural event.
The first ever day of racing went without too many hitches. The GC32 catamarans are competing in the race for The Great Cup.
The most significant blow came when SPAX Solutions had a gear failure within seconds of the start of the first race. It was unfortunate for her as she had to stand down for the rest of the day, along with two Dutch teams.
This led left the Swiss teams of Flavio Marazzi and Adam Minoprio and the Austrian AEZ teams of Andreas Hagara and Max Trippolt's young squad to spend the remaining day of racing.
The brand new GC32s put on a breathtaking show even with two boats. The crews were screaming past the VIP spectator ship on one hull. The breeze was occasionally gusting to 13 knots, but more often around 10 knots.
AEZ GC32 Youth Sailing was the surprise for the day as it came out on the top with the same crew that missed out in February selection trials for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup.
