In a recently released blog post, tech biggie Google has revealed that its 2015-launched ‘Project Fi’ mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is set to receive a significant network boost; with the addition of a third network --- US Cellular, the fifth-ranking wireless carrier in the US.
The Project Fi MVNO cellular service -- which boasts the unique ability to switch between multiple networks -- already gives users the benefit of two networks: Sprint and T-Mobile.
Announcing the addition of the US Cellular network to the Project Fi service in the coming weeks, Google said in the blog post that the LTE service of US Cellular will be merged into Project Fi in "23 states, both urban and rural."
As a result of the addition of US Cellular network to the Project Fi MVNO cellular service, the users of Fi-compatible handsets – which currently include Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P – will be able to pick the fastest network from Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular.
Highlighting the advantages of the Project Fi service, Google said in the blog post: “By accessing multiple cellular networks, Fi users have a connection nearly 99 percent of the time, and spend about 95 percent of cellular time on LTE — which will improve even further with the addition of US Cellular.”
