Online retail giant has listed new, customizable versions of its Amazon Dash buttons -- which facilitate customers in reordering specific brand items for home delivery -- on sale on its website.
The new buttons are called 'AWS IoT Buttons'; with 'AWS' standing for Amazon Web Services, and 'IoT' being an acronym for the rapidly-growing 'Internet of Things' ecosystem of cloud-connected devices and services. As such, the new AWS IoT Buttons essentially underscore an IoT product powered by Amazon's cloud, with its sole interface being a repurposed Amazon Dash button.
According to the listing on the Amazon website, the cost of the new, customizable AWS IoT Buttons will be $20. The buttons will probably be in stock with effect from May 15.
The new AWS IoT Buttons are Wi-Fi connected, fully programmable buttons that have the capability to trigger all kinds of things, either with one single press or with a combination of presses. Amazon is pitching these buttons as a mechanism for developers to learn how they can effectively use the company's different cloud services, including its 'IoT' offering that powers Internet of Things devices.
About the AWS IoT Buttons, Amazon said on its website: "You can click the button to unlock or start a car, open your garage door, call a cab, call your spouse or a customer service representative, track the use of common household chores, medications or products, or remotely control your home appliances."
