Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen donates $9 million to support Ebola battle

Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen's charitable foundation will donate $9 million to assist U. S. efforts to fight back the Ebola outburst in West Africa.

The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation will make the donation to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to set up emergency operations centers in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, which are suffering the worst brunt of Ebola outbreak.

In a blog post, Allen wrote, "The developed world needs to step up now with resources and solutions. The tragedy of Ebola is that we know how to tackle the disease, but the governments in West Africa are in terrible need of more resources and solutions".

After resigning from Microsoft in 1983, Allen emerged as a great humanitarian. He founded the Allen Institute for Brain Science and the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence to sustain scientific research for humanitarian causes.

Allen's charitable foundation is not the only one to come forward to support the ongoing fight against Ebola outbreak. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has also pledged to donate a huge amount of $50 million to U. N. agencies and other international charitable organizations to purchase materials like shielding equipment for healthcare workers treating patients of Ebola, and to spread out the emergency response.

The Ebola outbreak, which has already killed more than 2,300 people, is not showing any signs of slowing even six months after it started.
