John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University in a national survey found that seven in 10 Americans believe that U. S. economy has witnessed an irreversible trend in the economy, which is not for good. Experts said that it seems great recession has caused a permanent sense of fear and negativity in the minds of US residents.
As per the survey, even though employment opportunities in the country have increased and the rate of unemployment has slowed down, majority of Americans still believe that the country has made no progress in past years and it has also not showed any signs of growth in coming years.
Researchers said that almost 16% of the total respondents had positive views for the US economy and they believed that job opportunities in the coming years will improve. And only one among the three adults reported that they
were unharmed at the time recession hit the US economy.
Carl Van Horn, co-director of the study, said that confidence of people in the federal government has gone even lower than what it was two to three years back.
Van Horn said people have such a bad attitude towards the growth rate of the country because they have been hurt severely due to the recession.
People are more concerned for jobs securities, they feel more stressed out, and they are unenthusiastic about their future, he added.
According to researchers, the slow rate of improvement is the major reason why people have lost their optimism for the United States.
The survey showed that the median household income was $53,891 in June which is less than an inflation-adjusted $56,604 at the beginning of the great recession in the country.
As per experts, recent improvement in the US economy has provided a glimmer of hope to Americans. Many employers have added more than 244,000 jobs on an average since February.
