Google to enforce "no super-naughty ads" provision of its AdWords policy in coming weeks

In a move which marks Google's imminent exit from the pornography advertising business, the company will soon implement the "no super-naughty ads" stipulation of its AdWords policies which it first posted in March.

With Google's "no super-naughty ads" provision set to be enforced in the near future, the company will ban pornographic websites from using its AdWords advertising network. However, the company will not ban adult advertising in general.

To inform AdWords-using porn companies about its impending move, Google has started sending emails to such companies. The emails read thus: "Beginning in the coming weeks, we'll no longer accept ads that promote graphic depictions of sexual acts including, but not limited to, hardcore pornography; graphic sexual acts including sex acts such as masturbation; genital, anal, and oral sexual activity."

Noting that the porn companies to which the emails are being sent have been identified by Google's system as "potentially affected" by the AdWords policy change, Google said in the emails that the company's should male "necessary changes" to their ads and sites, so as to be in compliance with the new policy.

It is apparent from the emails that Google is tightening the definition of what ads it will allow on AdWords. The company has specified in the emails that when the AdWords policy change comes into effect, all ads and sites which are identified as being "in violation of our revised policy" will be disapproved.
