Apple in talks with several health care professionals over HealthKit use

Reuters has revealed in a Monday report that Apple is apparently in talks with a number of health care professionals over the use of its soon-to-be-launched HealthKit software platform. However, there has thus far been no substantial development in that direction.

HealthKit is a platform which enables the users to keep a track of their health data. The HealthKit platform was first unveiled by Apple at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco in June this year.

According to the Reuters report, the healthcare professionals with which Apple is currently in HealthKit-related negotiations include Johns Hopkins, Mount Sinai Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. The report has also revealed that Apple is in talks with medical records providers Allscripts and Epic Systems too.

The reported negotiations being made by Apple with regard to the HealthKit platform are an indication that Apple is not content with only the iPhone and the AppStore. The company is also seeking to collect and distribute HealthKit users' blood pressure, pulse, weight and other key health information.

Meanwhile, hinting that the HealthKit platform may bring along some privacy concerns, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a statement coinciding with the unveiling of HealthKit: "Apple will work closely with the FDA as they develop future products."
