It has been said many times that quantum computing has capability of computing massive amount of information in lesser time. In fact, a lot of advancements have been made in the new field.
The first commercial quantum computer has also been developed by D-Wave Systems, a Canadian company, recently. But a new research refutes that quantum computer is faster than MACs and PCs.
As per the new research released on June 19, researchers unveiled that a D-Wave Two and traditional computers were found to be carrying out operations that almost matched optimization algorithms.
Researchers said they did not find any evidence of quantum speed up when the complete data set was considered and also 'inconclusive results' occurred in other data subsets. The research team found the D-Wave Two to solve the problems up to five times faster than normal computers.
But in certain problems, D-Wave Two was found to compute results up to 100 times slower than the traditional computers. The current study findings seem to be giving birth to a new debate as to whether quantum computers can actually make use of quantum phenomena or they can do those tasks that cannot be done by classical computers.
Meanwhile, NASA and Google have lent support to the world's largest non-classified quantum computer. They are yet to publish the results of research they have been doing on it. If the results are positive then it may invoke interest among online business ventures.
