USA Today revealed in a Friday report that the online billing system of bigwig wireless carrier Verizon Wireless is experiencing a problem which has apparently affected the carrier's subscribers all over the country.
As a result of the problem with Verizon's online billing system, the activation of new devices of some Verizon subscribers had failed for at least the last 24 hours on Friday. In addition, some customers have not been able to upgrade their handsets at a few in-store locations; while some have not been able to pay their bills online.
According to the USA Today report, the areas in which Verizon customers have been affected by the carrier's online billing system outage include the Midwest, Northeast and some southern states.
The reports of the outage of Verizon's online billing system hit Twitter on Thursday, when Verizon's subscribers started reported problems with online bill payments, upgrade eligibility checks, new device activations, as well as access to Verizon's My Verizon Web portal.
However, the problem in Verizon's online billing system has not seemingly spilled over to the carrier's network, which means that customers can still fully access voice calls, text messaging, and data services.
Meanwhile, Verizon has also acknowledged the outage, and has asserted that the problem affects only its online billing system and related services.
