Verizon, Netflix working ‘aggressively’ to deliver faster streaming speeds

After playing the blame game with regard to fluctuating streaming speeds for months, Verizon and Netflix are now "aggressively" working together for faster streaming, by the way of setting up a more direct ISP connection which will enable smoother streaming speeds for Netflix subscribers using the FiOS network.

The "cooperation" between Verizon and Netflix in the direction of faster streaming speeds was confirmed by David Young - Verizon's Vice President of federal regulatory affairs- in a policy blog published on July 10.

The working together of Verizon and Netflix apparently implies that SVOD pioneer Netflix will likely have to pay an interconnection fee to the wireless carrier so ensure faster streaming. Netflix is already paying a similar fee to Comcast.

Meanwhile, the July 10 policy post - which confirms that Verizon and Netflix are co-operating with each other for providing faster streaming to consumers - also reiterates Verizon's previous standpoint which challenges Netflix's claims that fluctuating streaming speeds on the FiOS network are a result of congestion caused by the telecom operator.

Asserting that "there was no congestion anywhere within the Verizon network," Young said in the blog post: "There was, however, congestion at the interconnection link to the edge of our network (the border router) used by the transit providers chosen by Netflix to deliver video traffic to Verizon's network."
