DuckDuckGo receives major redesign with enhanced search tools

Privacy-themed search engine DuckDuckGo has revealed in a Tuesday announcement that it is releasing an updated interface for its website, underscoring a substantial redesign with enhanced search tools to attract new users.

According to the announcement, the updated interface of the DuckDuckGo website will boast "smarter search," along with a new, cleaner design as well as improvements pertaining to photo search, video search, and place search, among others.

Pointing out that the new changes introduced by DuckDuckGo are essentially aimed at bringing the privacy-themed search engine a step closer towards challenging the ubiquitous Google search engine, DuckDuckGo's CEO Gabriell Weinberg said that the changes include several features which had been requested by the users.

These features, as per Weinberg, include images, local search, auto-suggest, and many others. Weinberg also said that the updates are now available on DuckDuckGo's desktop and mobile websites, with updates for DuckDuckGo apps on iOS and Android also to be released soon.

Noting that DuckDuckGo currently hosts almost 150 million searches per month, Weinberg said: "Our hope is that our focus on smarter search and real privacy will appeal to a significant percentage of people."
