Google issues gender and ethnic breakdown of its workforce

Earlier this week, Internet search giant Google released its workforce diversity report which showed that the majority of the company's 26,000 employees in the US are men and White.

According to the diversity-related figures shared by Google in the report, the ratio of male and female employees at the company is 70:30; with a glaringly lack of women employees in senior executive positions.

The report interestingly reveals that nearly 48 percent of Google's non-tech positions in the US are held by women. There is an evident dominance of men as far as the company's higher-paying engineering and leadership positions are concerned. Women comprise only 21 percent of the company's leadership.

Moreover, with regard to the ethnic breakdown of the Google workforce, the company's report has revealed that 61 percent of the employees are White, and 30 percent are Asian. Hispanic and Black employees respectively comprise barely 3 percent and 2 percent of the Google workforce.

Commenting on the workforce diversity report released by Google, tech consultancy ITIC's chief analyst Laura DiDio said: "It's crucial for Google to diversify in order to reflect the gender and demographic makeup of the current and projected U. S. workforce -- and truly be an 'equal opportunity employer'."
