Google is using third parties to enhance its productivity apps on Android

In a Thursday announcement, tech biggie Google said that it efforts underway to increase the usefulness of its productivity apps on the Android mobile operating system with the help of third parties.

According to the announcement, functionality from apps such as Scanbot, DocuSign, and ProsperWorks can now be brought into Google Docs and Google Sheets on the Android OS.

The availability of third-party add-ons for Google Docs and Sheets underscores a noteworthy move by Google for extending its productivity software on Android, especially because Docs and Sheets are two of the most common Google Apps used on Android for business purposes.

The new third-party add-ons will facilitate Android users in getting work done within Google Docs and Sheets while they are on the go. The add-ons will essentially enable users to access CRM data, start to electronically sign a document, and use the data stored in a spreadsheet to create mobile apps.

Announcing that third-party add-ons for Google Docs and Sheets are now available, Google said that Docs and Sheets can now use add-ons from eight initial partners. However, in due course, it will be possible for developers to build their own add-ons, and submit them to Google for review. If the add-ons are deemed worthy by Google, the company will permit their integration with Docs and Sheets.
