Sony’s Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact handsets now available in US

In an announcement made via a blog post, Sony has revealed that its Xperia Z5 handset and its smaller counterpart -- Xperia Z5 Compact -- are now available for purchase in the US.

The availability of the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact handsets in the US comes a few months after Sony's launch of the handsets in some of the other regions of the world. Both the handsets were unveiled and released by Sony in late 2015.

In its announcement that the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact handsets are now on sale in the US, Sony said that the devices can be purchased -- as 'unlocked' GSM smartphones -- from Amazon, Best Buy, B&H Photo, and other electronics retailers. The cost of the Xperia Z5 for the US customers is $600, while the Z5 Compact is priced at $500.

Some of the key features of the US version of the Xperia Z5 handset include a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD screen; a Snapdragon 810 processor; 3GB of RAM; a 23-megapixel back camera with LED flash; and a 5.1-megapixel front camera; a non-removable 2900mAh battery; and 32GB of onboard storage capacity, with microSD card slot to increase storage to up to 200GB. The handset runs Android OS version 5.1 'Lollipop.'

The Xperia Z5 Compact handset boasts nearly the same specifications as its bigger counterpart; except that it features a 4.6-inch HD IPS LCD screen, 2GB of RAM, and a 2700mAh battery.
