Mars One Unveils Unmanned Mission’s Details

Today, Mars One publicized its mission details. One of the exciting revelations is the unmanned spacecraft could carry advertisements to space.

Mars One's vehicle would have seven payloads. Out of the seven, four are scientific experiments that will help in knowing whether human settlement on the Red Planet can thrive by 2025. The payloads carry a liquid extractor that will try to extract water from Martina soil and would be collected by another payload.

A solar panel is also present to test if sun is a sufficient source of energy for human settlement. A camera will also be put into use so that the organization can get a live feed of Mars 24/7.

Coming to advertisement part, out of seven payloads, three will be left and two of them will go to the highest bidders. These two loads can be used for advertisement plans. Remaining payload has been reserved for the Mars One University contest winner.

Mars One project was a matter of controversy, but it has been found that the organization has hired Lockheed Martin, the one who built NASA's Phoenix Lander, to make the spacecraft. The unmanned 2018 mission will serve as a preparation for a planned human mission to Mars in 2024, said Mars One.

The organization aims to send four people on a one-way trip to Mars every two years starting in 2024. The organization is looking for inputs from the scientific community to get the best ideas from around the world, said Arno Wielders, co-founder and chief technical officer of Mars One.

"The ideas that are adopted will not only be used on the lander in 2018, but will quite possibly provide the foundation for the first human colony on Mars", said Wielders.
