Average Temperature rising on Earth: Climate Report

On Thursday, climate scientists publicized State of the Climate in 2013 report. One of the main points mentioned in the report is earth is becoming a warmer place.

Record level warmth has been witnessed in Australia and China. Moreover, sea levels continued to rise and the Arctic sea ice is melting at faster pace. The report led by the NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N. C., had 425 researchers from different countries across the world.

At a press conference, Tom Karl, Director of the National Climatic Data Center, compared earth to a person who is trying to balance his weight, but adds a couple more pounds. This trend is not good.

Six important signs mentioned in report have been listed below:-

1. All major greenhouse gases have increased significantly.

2. Last year was one of the warmest years on record. Its ranking stands between second and sixth depending upon the dataset used.

3. The Arctic continued to warm.

4. Every year, sea level continues to rise by around an eight inch.

5. Sea surface temperature is also rising.

Out of all, particular attention was given to the Arctic. In summers, sea ice at the Arctic is declining by 14% per decade. "We're seeing very rapid declines in these very important climate indicators", affirmed Martin Jeffries, who studies Arctic issues for the U. S. Office of Naval Research.

As per the report-maker, the report is a detailed update on global climate indicators and other data collected from different sources, including environmental monitoring stations and instruments on air, land, sea and ice.
