U.S. Department of Solar Energy Decathlon to Start Tomorrow in Irvine

According to a report, most of the teams from outside of the U. S participated in the U. S. Solar Decathlon, which was held in America.

The U. S. department of energy Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive.

The winner of the competition will be the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.

Most of the collegiate teams from the Spain, China, New Zealand, Belgium, and Montreal, had participated in the solar-powered home design and build competition.

A German team was the winner of this event in year 2007 and 2009. This event will be starting tomorrow morning at Orange Country Great Park in Irvine. A total of four non-American teams, which includes two Canadian and two European, will compete with the 16 homegrown contenders.

The big advantage for all the teams this year is that Germany is not taking part in this event.

Team Austria from the Vienna University of Technology and Team Ontario from the Queen's University, Carleton University, and Algonquin College, are the two Solar Decathlon teams. They moved to Southern California along with their passports and having their -powered homes in tow.
