Christoph Leitl’s Comment Spurs Nationwide Debate before Parliamentary Election

Chamber of Commerce Head Christoph Leitl has triggered a debate all over the nation by his statement that Austria is `going to the dogs'.

During last five years, when almost all the countries falling under Euro Zone were having a tough time in dealing with the economic crisis, there were very little problems faced by this prosperous country.

The statement has raised fears that the pro-Europe coalitions parties that have been boasting about the economic momentum for coming back to power wont' do any better for the economic growth of the country. Parliamentary elections in Austria are scheduled to be held on September 29.

The coalition of conservative People's Party (OVP) and Social Democrats (SPO) has indicated that after coming in power their goal will be to preserve the current economic status, which according to experts will not be good for the economy in the long run.

Experts believe that to retain the enviable economy and status of one of the happiest countries of the world, there should be a will for more. Reforms in pension and education should be introduced and that lack of competitiveness will be very dangerous for future.

The polls have suggested that this coalition is most likely to come back in power, in spite of strong challenges from other parties.
