Federal Officials Reject Petition of Delisting West Coast group of Killer whales

As per recent reports, it has been unveiled that San Joaquin Valley farmers have appealed that West Coast group of killer whales should be dropped from the endangered species list.

But the appeal was rejected by federal officials. It was in 2005 when the southern resident killer whales were enlisted in the endangered species list.

The Pacific Legal Foundation filed a petition in 2012. The foundation said to have filed the petition on behalf of a number of groups known as the Center for Environmental Science Accuracy and Reliability.

Not only them, there were two San Joaquin Valley growers also involved with the organization. It has been said that the organizations have filed a petition as they have been facing environmental restrictions due to the listing.

On the other hand, federal biologists were of the view that delta water operations risk the lives of the southern orcas. Pumping act takes place during the operation and that is considered to be harming the southern orcas.

"We ought to be moving well past the era when we're fighting over whether they need protection and concentrate on what we should be doing", said Steve Mashuda, an attorney with Earthjustice, the legal environmental group.
