Austrian Central Banker Resigns

In order to reduce the rising speculations over the bribery case, Austrian Central Banker has resigned. Austrian National Bank Deputy Governor Wolfgang Duchatczek has resigned. He gave his resignation letter on Tuesday.

This resignation is in context of revelations that say that he ignored banknote printing contracts with Azerbaijan and Syria. These deals have questioned eight more people. These members have been suspended. They've been under scrutiny but during the procedure of interrogation and inquest, the Austrian Banker resigned.

According to Attorney Herwig Hauser, this maneuver was important to calm down the situation. Even Duchatczek has justified this claim. He has refuted all the allegations that have been leveled against him.

This resignation will keep Wolfgang Duchaczekfrom his position as Deputy Governor and member of the Governing Board of the Austrian National Bank (OeNB). This announcement was made by his lawyer, Herwig Hauser. His lawyer has stated that the reason for his resignation was to improve the conditions and also live up to the intentions of the presidency of the OeNB.

He averred that this action can also be attributed to the fact that the rising conflicts need to be erased. He has been onthe supervisory board of the OeNB's banknote printing subsidiary OeBS from 1998. He became its chairman in
2004.
