After having filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this week, Apple's sapphire supplier GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) has now sought the permission of the court to "wind down" operations at its sapphire manufacturing facility in Arizona.

On October 6, GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) - the company which supplies sapphire glass to Apple for the Apple Watch device - filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The move has triggered doubts about whether tech giant Apple will use sapphire as a protective cover for its next-generation iPhone, because the company will not likely source the material from another supplier.

On Tuesday, Nvidia opened the pre-orders for the updated version of its Shield gaming tablet --- the company's 4G LTE-enabled shield version dubbed 'The Ultimate Gaming Tablet.'

The updated 4G LTE-enabled Shield gaming tablet is now available for pre-order on the Nvidia website as well as AT&T. Both the companies have indicated that the shipments of the tablet will commence from September 30.

According to a TechCrunch report, the cost of the Edition version of the newly-unveiled Apple Watch wearable tech device will likely be nearly $1,200.

TiVo has recently unveiled its biggest product thus far --- the TiVo 'Mega' DVR, which has the capacity to record three years' worth of video.

Announcing the new TiVo Mega DVR, TiVo said that the 24-terabyte server-like appliance is capable of recording more than 26,000 hours of SD TV shows, or 4,000 hours of HD content before requiring any deletion of content.

The Google Glass Explorer edition is now available across the Google Play store across the US. The cost of each unit of the Glass Explorer from Google Play is $1,500; with the option of complimentary frames for the device.

Technology news website Re/code has revealed in a recent report that the much-rumored Apple iWatch wearable device - which will likely be unveiled by the company at its forthcoming September 9 event - will be price at approximately $400.

With the Apple iPhone yet to support near-field communication (NFC), one of the most persistent rumors that have circulated ahead of a new iPhone launch - since iPhone 4S launch - is that the handset will implement the NFC technology for mobile payments and other uses.
