Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 garners record high pre-orders

Pre-orders for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 premium smartphone have hit the highest-ever level for the Note series, the South Korean electronics giant said in a press release.
In its latest press release, Samsung said pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 8 premium smartphone over a period of five days surpassed its predecessor Note 7 by nearly 2.5 times.
DJ Koh, president of Samsung’s mobile communications business, said, “Pre-orders reached about 650,000 Note 8 handsets over five days from about 40 countries, making the initial response very encouraging.”
Samsung is banking on the new smartphone to protect its market dominance amid increasing completion from Apple Inc. and other device makers. Apple’s newest iPhones are set to be introduced later on Tuesday.
The company is now accepting pre-orders for the Note 8 smartphone in the United States, South Korea and some other countries.
The Note 8 smartphone’s price in the United States ranges between $930 and $960, which includes dialing and data plans. Analysts expect it to be joined by a new series of $1,000-plus iPhones.
